Insight Psychological Therapists - Terri Mulveney

Terri Mulveney, Registered Psychologist, M.C.; Registered Psychologist (She/Her)

As a therapist, I feel it is important to build a healthy therapeutic relationship and focus on providing clients with the most supportive, empathic, and judgment-free environment possible. It is my hope to learn about clients,  and from clients, as I honestly believe we are the experts of our own experience. I am here to give your experience the respect and dignity it deserves and guide you through your therapeutic journey from a client-centered standpoint, integrating those therapeutic approaches that best suit your individual experience

Please Note: For clients under 18, the first session with Terri must be with the parent(s) before proceeding with the child’s session.

More About Terri Mulveney

I am a Registered Psychologist at Insight Psychological and have been practicing here for over three years now. I have extensively strengthened my training in therapeutic play skills, helping children through separation and divorce, EMDR therapy, ADHD/Mental Health Assessments and more. While a large part of my practice involves working with children, I also see clients of any age on an individual basis and incorporate many other therapeutic modalities into my practice as needed. I remain client-centered, strengths-based, and am wholly focused on what your goals are as a client.

Prior to working with Insight, I completed my practicum through the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre (CASASC) and therefore have extensive experience working with sexual assault survivors and their families. Not only did I have the opportunity to receive excellent training in trauma-informed care through my close relationship with CASASC, I also worked as a front line support for those who had been affected by sexual assault/abuse, providing immediate mental health support and care as required.

While I completed my Master’s degree, I worked as an Educational Assistant within a classroom for students with a diverse range of needs. This position allowed me to work with a plethora of children who lived with various developmental disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Downs Syndrome, Global Developmental Delay, and more. This position provided me the opportunity to be flexible in my approach with children and work with each child from an individualized approach. This is something I still take into my therapeutic practice today.

I am a therapeutic practitioner that sees the potential in every one of my clients. My hope is to empower clients to also see their life from this perspective and begin to make steps towards positive change.

A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS:

Terri, what is your favourite quote?

“The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know” – Albert Einstein

This quote reminds me every day to remain curious in my practice, but also as a person. Curiosity provides a client openness to be true to their story and not conform to an idea that I have placed before them as being acceptable. We are all unique, our perspectives and narratives are individual, and your experience is truly your own. As a person, I can remain curious with my family, friends, and others I come into contact with. This creates opportunity to learn from others, improve relationships, and continue to grow.

What has been the most satisfying part of being a psychologist?

I have to say, throughout my experience, there have been moments where I am in awe of my clients. How they have grown through some of the toughest challenges and become a version of themselves that they can truly be proud of. A lot of times, when clients are feeling stuck, I try to remind them of their growth, and it is generally in these times that I am truly in awe. As I go through all of the trials they have overcome and remind them of how much they have accomplished. These are some of the moments I truly cherish.
