Insight Psychological Therapists - Lauren Chow

Lauren Chow, Practicum Intern Therapist, BSc, MACP Student (She/Her)

Certain factors or life events – such as stress, loss, negative self-talk, low self-worth, trauma, and anxiety – can interfere with our capacity to live an authentic life. We can often feel like we do not have the necessary tools in our pockets to handle what is in front of us. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process that can help you overcome any hurdles or barriers you may be facing by gaining insight and understanding, building self-compassion, feeling empowered, and developing coping skills and tools to step towards living more authentically and confidently. My goal as your therapist is to create a safe and validating environment where you can safely and confidently explore and process your experiences and emotions.

NOTE: Our Practicum Therapists offer reduced rates for counselling support. Please be aware that FEES WILL BE NON-REIMBURSABLE by Extended Health Care Benefit Plans.

More About Lauren Chow

I have been working in the field of mental health promotion for the past six years, providing psychoeducation and prevention services to children, youth, and adults in Edmonton and the surrounding area. While my work in mental health promotion is very fulfilling, I have pursued my master’s in counselling psychology so that I can be better equipped to further understand and support individuals in reaching their goals and unique needs. As a practicum intern therapist, I strive to utilize and strengthen my mental health promotion skills with my clients while being able to support them in a more therapeutic environment.

I believe that every person’s unique characteristics and identities (such as personality, culture, race, gender, sexuality, and intersectionalities) make up each individual’s baseline of healthy functioning and contribute to an individual’s unique and complex experiences and stories. I am passionate about learning your story, and I welcome the uniqueness and diversity of each individual.

I respect the courage it takes to be vulnerable, which is why I aim to create an open, welcoming, and non-judgmental space for people to explore their emotions, experiences, and stories. My therapeutic approach is holistic, warm, curious, accepting, and understanding. I strive to be attuned to my client’s needs so that you may feel seen, heard, and valued in a therapeutic environment that we can build together.

A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS

What is your favourite quote?

“If not now, then when? If not me, then who?”

While this quote can be attributed to many different individuals (Michelle Obama, Emma Watson, Malcom X), it is one that I try to say to myself when feeling anxious or doubtful. I also believe it is very fitting for therapeutic practice and reminds us that we are responsible for our own behaviour, thoughts, and choices, that we are the ones who can make a change, and that we can engage in those first steps now.

What are you most passionate about?

As a bicultural individual, I have become passionate about equitability and intersectionalities. With my background in public health, I strive to provide equitable opportunities for people, especially providing space and/or opportunities for marginalized peoples. With this, I also believe we must consider the intersectionalities a person holds and how they may positively or negatively impact a person’s life.
