When an employee is currently on leave or have requested to go on leave or have difficulty working due to mental health strain/injury and mental illness, there is a need to ensure that they get the support and accommodation they need to successfully return to work and/or remain at work.
In many cases, an employee who is on leave due to medical issues or accidents also experience cognitive and mental health difficulties that require support and accommodation in order that they can successfully return to work and remain at work.
Insight’s therapists can provide a fit-to-remain-working or readiness-to-return-to-work assessments to determine:
- the types and extent of mental health injury, psychological effects, and/or cognitive impairment experienced by the employee,
- how the injury, psychological effect or cognitive impairment might affect the employee’s fitness to remain working or readiness to return to work,
- the type of work accommodations that may be needed to ease the employee’s return to work or continuation of work,
- the treatment and support that may be needed to help the employee’s continued recovery, resiliency building, and performance restoration
Our therapists can also provide one-on-one therapy and support to the employee in dealing with their mental health injury, psychological effects, and/or cognitive impairment so that they can be more ready and able to return to work. For employees with difficulty attending face-to-face therapy sessions, sessions can be facilitated through our secured online counselling (real-time, secured video conferencing).
If an employee is off on mental health leave, completing a proper RTW assessment as well as ensuring proper support and accommodation at the early stage of the employee’s time off work can likely help to improve their situation and reduce the duration and/or frequency of time off from work.
Once an employee has returned to work from being on leave due to mental health strain/injury and mental illness, it does not necessary mean that they have fully recovered and their issues are resolved. In most cases, continued counselling and/or treatment is needed not only to ensure progress in recovery and rebuilding but also to prevent relapse or deterioration. Our therapists can provide the care and support the employee recovery journey.
